The term "colloidal" such as from the colloidal silver water generator refers to a substance that consists of ultra-fine particles that do not dissolve, but remain suspended in a medium of different matter. These Ultra-fine particles are too small to be seen by the eye. The silver particles are electronically charged to activate the germicidal quality of the silver and allow the particles to remain suspended in the solution of deionized water. A number of methods have been used to produce colloidal silver. The "grind" method used in the early 1900’s produced particles that were too large to stay in suspension. Stabilizers had to be added which tend to disturb the charge in the silver particles, thereby blocking their action and reducing their overall effectiveness. More recently, chemical processes have been used. These chemicals (acids) make it difficult getting the particles out of the solution. Early forms of medicinal silver consisted of fine silver powder mixed in solutions and crèmes. These large particles worked for some applications but the particle size was too big to enter individual cells. Today, super-minute ions of silver are held in suspension in de-ionized water by an electrical charge. These ions are small enough to enter the cell where viruses hide.
Ionic silver water looks clear and tastes like water. Other silver products appear gray or yellow because of their large particle size or additives.
Only ionic silver has a positive electrical charge and remains in suspension and active for years, even after being frozen solid or heated.
Ionic silver is not affected by light or temperature. Non-ionic silver must be stored in dark bottles away from temperature extremes or it quickly falls out of solution.
While many products are called "colloidal silver", only the ionic form is small enough to penetrate the cell wall which makes it much more effective.
